My 5 Favorite TWAOU² Travel Photos of 2018

That’s it. The year is almost over. We set off 10 months ago on our trip around the world and it seems like it was only yesterday. We’ve had some crazy experiences and great adventures but I never took a break from photographing. So, I thought it would be a good idea to pick my favorite photos from our travels.

I took photos pretty much every single day. Some countries didn’t inspire me that much but others, wow, inspiration overload! India is still my favorite country for photography. It’s so complete and interesting for a photographer. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a new and exciting destination. We’ll see if it stays my number one when we come back from next part of our trip, South America. But that’s for 2019!

For now, my favorite photos and most inspiring photography destinations from 2018. I have to say, sometimes, it’s not just because of the photo why it’s in the lost. The whole experience of getting to the location or the effort of getting there makes the shot memorable a lot of times. Yeah, it’s a very subjective list so let me know what you think are my best photos from the past year.

We’ve visited 9 countries: India, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, the US and the Dominican Republic. All were different, interesting and beautiful. Great places for photographers depending on what your looking for or what kind of photography you like.

So, without further ado… my favorite photos from 2018…

Bombay, India

Bombay, what a city. Our first destination so obviously it special. We arrived in the middle of the night and the next day we started exploring the city. We ended up at Marina Drive and Chowpatty beach. Locals come here to enjoy the sunset and eat street food all night long. It’s a great place to relax and the light around sunset in incredible. Sad to say, it’s the smog that makes the light so soft and golden in the evening…

Delhi, India

We had to get up at two or three in the morning to catch the train to Jaipur and we had been lucky until then. Not one train had a serious delay during almost a month of traveling in India. That night though, we had to wait for four hours… Four hours in the middle of the night in Old Delhi Railway station… what can I say.. it’s and experience. I took this photos when the sun came up and I really like it because it reminds me of photos from travel photographer Steve McCurry. The light and posture and movement of the subject… perfect.

Kratie, Cambodia

While not my favorite country for photography per se, Cambodia was definitely the most pleasant surprise. We didn’t really know what to expect but it’s a super chill and beautiful country for backpackers and travelers. The nicest thing were the people. Friendly, great sense of humor and always smiling. The horrible history is far from forgotten but Cambodians are not bitter or sad. Don’t forget the past but look to the future.

Mount Bromo, Indonesia

Yes, landscapes. I’m not a landscape photographer but in Indonesia I photographed a lot of beautiful landscapes. From all the countries we’ve visited, I think it’s the best for landscape photographers. Volcanoes, rice terraces and temples in jungle setting. You’ll either feel like being on another planet or in a movie. For me, the sunrise at Mount Bromo was definitely one of the highlights in Indonesia.

Grand Canyon, United States

How can I leave it out, the Grand Canyon. One of the most photographed landmarks in the world but I mean… It was my second time visiting the Grand Canyon it was even more impressive than the first time. The colors around sunset are great but I loved it even more after sunset. The silence when the hordes tourists are gone combined with one of the best landscapes in the world is unforgettable.
